An excellent video!
Just ordered an all black Yojumbo and looking for self defense videos with a knife application. Who better to watch than the designer himself?
One of the hardest things to learn is to step into an attack rather than the instinct to move away, putting yourself into the full power of the attacking weapon. It takes a lot of training and self discipline to break the habit of protecting yourself by moving away from the attack rather than dealing with the attack itself. If you already have distance, then maintain that distance by any means necessary, but if the attack has already commenced and you are in striking range, fight the urge to retreat and deal with the attack. Most of the time when I’ve seen people get hurt is because they were retreating when they should have been dealing with the threat. Get comfortable in the idea that you can and probably will get hurt in some way. Once you accept that, you can work on limiting the amount of damage you will take by being defensively offensive rather than strictly caught in a defense mindset. As the old saying goes, your best defense is a good offense. If you incapacitate the attacker, you win. To strictly defend means more opportunities for the attacker to land a crippling blow. You must run or fight. You cannot block forever.
This is gonna help me in todays world ty sir
Excellent instruction and techniques.michael janich is no fucking joke.
This is a well-worked out philosophy of use (Philosophy Of Use – The Nutnfancy Project) for a small folder such as Spyderco's Yojimbo 2. Isolating and attacking the joints. This is the best one of Michael Janich's mini-videos that I've seen.
