I love how the expert really says swiping motions wouldn’t be effective cause “it would be like getting his with a stick” yeah and in that context (to the face) a stick is pretty effective. Jesus. Just cause it’s not 100% efficient use of a weapon doesn’t mean it’s not useful. Look at spear fighting farther east in Asia. You’re looking at wide swings with the spear with a similar thrusting edge.
I feel like these “big experts” really are just book experts in their chosen style and shut their brains off to other fighting styles.
Spear was also the main weapon of choice in ancient Tamil kingdoms; Chera, Chola and Pandya. Murugan, the Tamil people's God of War is depicted as holding a spear. The spear is used not just for thrusting, but it is also effective in slicing at vital points such as the wrist and neck. To understand how the ancient Tamils used their spears, please watch videos on Silambam and Kalari. Use the keyword "Vel Kambu" when you search. Vel means spear and kambu means stick.
Troy hands down the best. They really did their homework in choreographing that one and actually used all the weapons efficiently. Showed how good of a fighter achilles is. Others just felt like they were flailing around to make it look flashy with minimal intent to actually kill.
About the duandao scene and the way guandao is held, Matt Easten is speaking without knowing anything and he has obviously never held a guandao in his "expert";s hands. Although guandao is long, it is rarely used with its full length because the blade is too heavy. This is the proper way to hold a guandao when on foot.
Troy felt very realistic to me. Hector swinging his spear was a desperate saving move to make Achilles back of.
And Achilles resting his spear on his back was just showing off his dominance, wich is basically part of his arrogant character.
Needs to spend more time on growing hair and not spewing this fake BS he's speaking of.
A simple Google search will show he is full of nonsense.
