There are several components to shooting accurately, including sight picture, stance, grip, trigger pull, and even breath management. Because people have been shooting firearms for hundreds of years, there is no shortage of techniques recommended to improve a shooter’s marksmanship. This article will focus on some of the more popular theories about stance. One theme common in each style described here is that there are variations from shooter to shooter. But before I get into that, allow me to introduce the stances I’ve chosen to discuss in this article: Isosceles, Weaver, Modified Weaver (also called Chapman), and Natural. im a cross dominant weaver, and it only involves rotating my head so my left eye is looking at the target. in the weaver, you bring the gun up to your eye, and dont dip your head or crain your neck.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful or anything Destinee. I just have to say: An intelligent woman who can shoot and defend herself, is just plain sexy! Rock on Destinee!

Wrong about the Weaver stance. I was around when Jack was still shooting

Great video! I didn't know that isosceles is an older technique than Weaver! My dad uses that, hence why I've learned to shoot that way. Ironically, for that reason I felt like an old dog using that, after seeing a lot of people use isosceles. 😀

Thanks for helping me find my stance FoD (modified Weaver)! This has really helped a lot – I went from having widely scattered shots to a small-ish but consistent 5 round group just with this stance change. Pleeeeze keep your great instructional vids coming – they are very well done, clearly narrated and wonderfully illustrated (pictures are always helpful).

Thanks Destinee for this series. Great series for the newbie and those who need to reassess their shooting style. I'm going to forward this to my daughter who is new to shooting.  Being a female as well 😉 listening and watching you will help her a lot. No pressure, and a female perspective.  Thanks again!

As I have told you before I love your videos. I don't often comment, but love them. Watching this video I wondered if you have advice for people like me who are in wheelchairs and shot from the seated position. I have yet to see advice on this anywhere. I thought about sharing what I do, but then fear if I am doing it wrong or not the best way I will be giving bad advice and don't want to do that. Any thoughts?

Nice job on this vid.  Your explanation of the different stances is excellent.  The modified Weaver was taught at the police academy when I was a rookie, and was still being taught when I retired.  Very natural fighting stance and highly recommended.

This is good for target shooting. But for real-world defensive shooting I would suggest practicing in every stance you can come up with. WTSHTF you won't be able to choose your perfect stance.

I'm a Weaver but I bend my knees just a little, lean forward just a little and I don't extend my arms all the way out because I wear bi-focals (a tip I got from My Dad) Works for me but I don't know what you'd call it. Good Video.
