TDI Knife FOF Karambit Knife Fighting
Over the weekend I took a Defensive Knife Class at the Tactical Defense Institute (TDI). The man who designed the TDI LEO knife that I carry, John Benner, was an assistant instructor in the class in southern Ohio and on day two they have full force on force.
The head instructor, Greg Ellifritz, gets to attack you ANY way he sees fit and the fight is not over until he is either dealt a blow he feels to be “fight stopping” or you fight your way to safety on the little blue mat farthest from you (with him standing between).
Then the other classmates play “jury” and tell you whether or not they think what you did was justifiable or not.
First he confronts me, then he attacks. I fight for distance or control (what we were taught) in order to access my knife and when I kick him off of me the first time is when I draw my knife.
I get a slice to the leg before I am able to escape to the safety mat. It’s hard to see in the video because everything goes really fast.
A FULL review of the class will be coming up shortly.
