Pardon me, but was thinking about getting a dog's head k-bar knife, and was wondering how you got that stone-wash/patina finish on the blade? Thank you so much for your help !
Use a file to round down the points of the side of the guard that you cut . That should help with the part that is still physically uncomfortable to you .
Time saver, get a Ka-Bar Dog head. Also, add #15 plumbing O-rings to the gaps in the handle, that will add a much better grip control as well as eliminating hot spots in the grip.
Blade is stripped, peep hole is drilled into the lower guard, top guard is ground off and rounded to match the handle, need to get the proper file to jimp the spine, spine is already 90 degrees so the fire stick is sparking well, ordering the tactical nylon sheath from Ka-Bar since this sheath feels like a cardboard box, spent two hours with my work sharp to put a razor sharp mirror edge on the blade, still need to fire up the belt grinder and take the clip point off for a drop point and and last was a sharpening choil. I think my 1211/1213 is coming along nicely. Keep at it man these knives are fun to modify.
Add #15 rings 1" O.D. 3/4 I.D. × 1/8. You can get them in the plumbing section at Lowes. Makes the grib on the leather handle that much better. You will need 5 of them to space it in between the leather gaps.
From the video I thought it looked two toned that's why I asked if you taped it but mine looks identical and I am really pleased. I have an Ontario knives M7 that I tried he same but the coating will not come off any ideas?
Did you strip the whole blade? The top looks darker did you tape it off or is that is how it came out? I am following your lead on the blade not sure if I will cut the top hand guard yet waiting for your reply thanks
I would ask you, why does ka-bar's blade stands a bit forward (offset), and not in the middle of the crossguard? In case of other type ka-bar knifes (short ka-bars), the blade stands normal in the middle of the crossguard. What can be pros and cons of this offset?
i up-thumbed it. i don't like that damned black paint on the blade, either and i don't like that top cross-guard piece on there, either. i like the Ka-Bar dog's head #1317 with the extended pommel for a lanyard, but i have the same knife you have. i may cut that top cross-guard piece of off mine too? tell ya what i did do is carefully file and sand the rough edges on the sheath-side of that cross-guard to keep it from tearing-up the leather sheath. did that when i got the knife and the sheath has no damage because of it. thx!

nothing new here. this set of mods are lifted directly from 300 other videos on here. come back when you have something
I just carry a pocket knife , and leave the Ka-bar alone. But I ain't real smart anyways.

WHY ?
Why don't you like clip points?

I did the same method after watching your video it looks amazing, I have not cut the finger guard off yet thanks for the info!

dude, other than the blade length you made a ka-bar USN MK 1 utility knife (it's blade is just over 5")
Good job!
Should have taken more off the top of the guard and rounded it more. Other than that, cool.

What did you use to remove the clip point?
the tip mod is awesome
