Would it be the worst thing to use a smooth stick? They make them on most martial arts product sites. I get the purist thing tho, too, if thats the reason.
Happened to me today
only happened to me once. Because the sticks I once owned were of very poor quality and I got multiple splinters and a torned skin at the back of my palm as soon as it breaks.
I have found that bicycle gloves protect!
same thing with my cold steel cane and egkh kukri. Both with my blood, but never occur again
