As you can see, a knife fight on the ground is extremely dangerous! This is especially true if your opponent has a full mount on you and his trying to stab you holding the knife!
As seen in the video, things move very rapidly in a knife fight and the fighting positions change very quickly as well. This is far from what we are used to see on other knife defense videos were the attacker is barely moving and trying to attack.
In this scenario, Adam ended on his back trying to fight off the attacker with his kicks. Although this position is “ok” to use against an unharmed attacker, it’s not the recommended position to use against a knife attacker…
It leaves you to vulnerable for lethal stabs and stomping by multiple attackers. If you find yourself in this position, you should do it very briefly and switch back to a more favorable position.
A good ground fighting position would be to use the one that is taught in our Ground Fighting – Code Red Defense video. Basically, you need to lie on the side of your body with one leg on the floor and the other one raised in the air and ready to strike.
You should strike your attacker with sharp and un-telegraphed movements and get back up as quickly as you can.

So er. . What if they try stabbing you in your legs or thigh. . What then
Great video!
Need to protect femoral artery as well
Nice one Nick as always!
Good video Nick, I notice you all have the white shirts to assess the damage too. There's another tactic that is worth trying for this, but you must be quick. Aswell as your kicks wait for the attacker to plant his foot relatively close enough so you can trap it by wrapping your leg around it. Then with the other leg press beneath the knee and this almost always results in them falling back, allowing you a quick opportunity to get back up. There might be other traps too like this aswell.
The speed of the knife attacks are realistically scary. Thanks for keeping it real, Nick. Not too many self defense instructors cover this topic at this scary real life speed or even from the ground position. Valuable video.
Thanks nick 🙂
