Surviving Knife Assaults: Defense Tips KarambitKnives, com
This video features violence prevention and self-defence instructors Richard Dimitri and Chris Roberts. They focus on a crucial aspect of knife defence: identifying the location of a concealed knife and quickly intercepting the attack.
This particular knife defence drill’s primary objective is intercepting a knife immediately. Many knife defence videos start with a scenario where the aggressor already has the knife visibly drawn. However, a more realistic and challenging situation is when the knife is concealed. If escape isn’t an option, learning to identify potential hiding spots for the knife becomes crucial. This will provide vital clues about the nature of the possible attack.
More crucial than speed is the ability to recognize pre-contact cues of violence that precede a knife attack.
A few of those may include.
Body Movement: Watch for shifts in body posture. An attacker might try to conceal a knife or position themselves to use their more dominant hand. Do they maintain one leg forward as they move towards you?
Can You See Both Hands and All Ten Fingers? Always pay attention to the hands. If the person keeps one hand hidden or even part of their hand, are they constantly reaching or touching areas like their back, hip, waistband, shirt, or any location where the knife is hidden? Is one hand making large gestures while the other stays secure or hidden?
Where Is Their Focus: An attacker might focus on their target or glance at the area where they plan to strike. Do they look around for possible witnesses or to distract you? Facial Expressions: Is there an elevation in the tension of their facial expressions? Does their face indicate they are becoming more hostile and aggressive?
Distance Is Critical: Do they quickly attempt to gain proximity with or without words? This is critical because, as this video references, it is virtually impossible to stop a knife attack if a person is too close. By maintaining distance, you force them to come to you, offering you further opportunities to assess and react effectively.
In the demonstrated drill, one partner conceals a knife on their body, and both engage in a scenario with verbal dialogue to simulate a realistic situation. The dialogue may take place over a short or lengthier period or not at all.
The goal is to trap or intercept the knife hand quickly. It’s important to note that there is no legitimate reason for someone to reach behind themselves in any confrontation. Spotting this action should trigger an immediate response to move in, trap the knife, and simultaneously target vulnerable points on the attacker’s body.

I would llve to see any of these videos with actual reistance. Ramsay Dewey would have a field day with you morons. I have issue with people who teach bullshit. Your gonna get so many people killed and its sickening. We already know whay works in real life. Even then scenarios are unpredictablr. You may have mastered the art of rear naked choke defense but when the dude pulls out a kimura wtc are you gonna do? Im nit even gonna address the stupid idea that you can defend a knife attack properly. Reality is your gonna get stabbed if you dont run. Stop deluding people and if yoi are so confident about any of this bullshit working i dare you to try this on me. Yeah im thay guy in the crowd that calls bullshit. Demonsttations are always controlled. Therefore they are not believable. Learn BJJ, Boxing, Wrestling or Muy Thai. Dont delude yourself with this crap people.
I appreciate SAFE International's emphasis on edged weapons defense; I'm opinionated towards learning to defend against edged weapons being more worthwhile than firearms or bludgeoning tools.
Turning on the notification bell pays off 😉 If the videos are only a bit longer… Anyway, thanks for the new video mate. Cheers
