Regarding the dirk question, I sometimes substitute a trinket from Montana State University's paleontology museum for a Sgian Dubh. I don't think anyone has noticed. It's a plastic ballpoint pen about the same size as a Sgian Dubs with a clicker that hides behind a T Rex head at the opposite end of the pen point
The food with no name? Rumbledethumps!
I was called away during the live session and didn't hear Rocky's envy of shirts from Brooks Brothers. Brooks Brothers actually has its own tartan, but when I visited my son in NYC last fall, we visited a Brooks Brothers emporium, and I asked to see something in "their" tartan. No one had a clue what I was talking about, and their explanation was telling: the store NAME had been sold so many times that no one working there had any real knowledge of the company's history.
I’m an African-American male who does wear kilts and I love it!!!!! I live in New Orleans, LA and I get a lot of compliments from people when I wear my kilts. True…you will find some people with snide comments, but I do my best to inform and educate them. But…I try not to engage individuals who choose to be rude, mean or completely stupid about the matter. Stay Kilted My Friend!!!!!
Venison is guuuuuuuuddddddd!!! Yessir!
For buckle designs, obviously a Klingon imperial belt buckle. But beyond that, I really like the animal ones you have. Zoomorphic boars or a raven with outstretched wings would be great!
Another great time with the family and thanks for the PNW tartan reveal.
On the subject of ghillie laces falling, if you don't have thicker hose, and the fit of the ghillies will allow it, there are socks known as mid or mini crew socks. You can wear your kilt hose over them and tie the ghillie laces around the leg right on top of the "lip" of mid/mini crew socks. The slightly larger diameter will prevent the laces from falling without needing to cinch the laces super tight.
I prefer slightly oversized ghillies with an added insole that can give me a bit more adjustability. To allow for this. I almost always wear ankle socks under my kilt hose.
If you don't want to wear a pair of socks under your kilt hose, you can cut the tops off of a pair of crew socks to wear on your ankles under your kilt hose.
As for the queation of the day, I'd like to see some folks play with intarsia knitting on kikt hose.
QUESTION: Guys when are we going to get more chocolate bronze plaid brooches? We NEED the stag brooch in chocolate bronze!!! That modern knotwork design one simply doesn't go with the stag buckle and pin. And also like many others I love designing tartans and want to register a few I have created. But without having any kilts to go by I'm really curious about seeing sett sizes compared for reference. For example is there any way you guys could hold up or lay out 3-4 kilts side by side, say one around a 6" sett one around a 7-7.5" sett and one at 8" so we can really see for ourselves what it looks like or maybe Rocky and Erik could both wear a tartan one closer to 6" and the other closer to 8" to kinda get a reference point. Thanks again in advance and keep all the awesome designs Rocky! Slàinte.
Rocky, you absolutely nailed it again Man! Well done. You may have a future in this.
Very nice new Tartan Rocky you really sing the Praises of the Pacific Northwest great speech
I have to disagree with your opinions about the Welsh ysgrepans. I think they look fantastic and the fastener is so much more convenient than a snap button like a typical day sporran has. It strikes me as odd that Erik would liken them to Ren Faire goods.
I have a future retro sporran concept to submit for Mac's consideration.
PNW Tartan, I agree with the color choices, not seeing it in the light I can’t be sure but your video PNW description is excellent. Long time resident of the PNW as mountain climber, kayaker and sailor and a serial kilter I look forward to the new tartan. LEC Salish Sea
