Thank you for taking the time to concisely break these down I've joined a Hema group and have had a lifelong appreciation for combat knives really starting with learning about WW1 trench warfare as a kid the FS dagger and its systems to me quickly stood out as optimal I am trying to steadily learn more and safely apply it to practical knife fighting I've found when sparring the type of trainer I gravitate to is a stiletto pattern focusing on tip presentation/alignment coming in at angles for fast sticks knees bent forward constant motion creating that false range. My takeaways if I were forced to compromise carrying a blade in place of a firearm I'd choose the FS knife every time understanding the background of the gutterfighting system has been very helpful I train not to be deadly but to exercise control and discipline so that if I'm ever placed in a situation where a knife is drawn In offense to me I can remain cool another takeaway I have is that a knife even in the hands of an amateur should never be taken lightly i view them as a serious threat rating within 21ft simply being on the facing end of one is a very bad scenario the bits I've garnered from hema is do not rush but read in a faceoff deflect/grapple and then get that blade in without hesitation keep it in your working space The scooping flick movements throwing off the opponent just long enough they cant zero in on your true range. I've consigned humbly that I know nothing but I'm seeking the art day by day.

I'm curious how effective these techniques are for open hand combat against someone who is an experienced fighter. By experienced I don't necessarily mean martially trained. There are a lot of guys who are just experienced street fighters.

I'm just curious how effective this method would be? I have always liked the idea of a system that uses the same techniques for edges weapons as open hand or other weapons. I think having one system would be over all the most effective.

That said most of us are going to probably mostly face the threat of open hand combat for self defense and as such the open hand techniques should be highly effective.

I'm curious your thoughts or input?

i appreciate you showing all this movements. been a Fairbairn fan for several years now. and as a now disabled person , many of these movements i can apply. what i appreciate is the no flash, just get it done and go to the next target. I can use some of these techniques with my cane as well. hope you can address the use of Fairbairn by the disabled at some point. Thanks!
