Discover the Mediterraneo Navaja Spanish Knife and Balisong Fighting Method KarambitKnives, com
The Spanish Navaja and Balisong method have several crossover tactical applications. One of them is the Mediterraneo Grip – the edge up orientation that opens up new avenues of study in both arts. The Navaja uses impeccable shoulder coordination to implement the cloak to disguise the Mediterraneo Grip, while the Balisong methodology uses exceptional hand manipulation to setup its counterpart- the Manila opening.
In this episode, these two methods become hybridized in one of Cold Steel’s most underrated designs – the Luzon XL. Designed after one of Lynn Thompson’s favorite Balisong, it is a proven yet affordable design that excels in both combative and utilitarian contexts.

An adaptation in clothing is to use a button up shirt for the cloak and dagger methodology. Jackets are hard to justify in warmer climates or seasons. It’s a lot easier to wear a loose thin button up shirt with a thin T-shirt or tank top underneath. Winter is coming so I think I’ll start practicing that with my flannels.
Also, the Filipino openings are really slow. The Matanga method is really good. It’s something similar to what I use for cutting string for my job.
