The art and philosophy of Jeet Kune Do is as legendary and prolific as its founder – Bruce Lee. The art itself, born out of the frustrations of a young and talented martial artist, became the blueprint for much of what we see today in mixed martial arts sporting events and in mainstream entertainment.

Jeet Kune Do’s lasting legacy goes beyond Bruce Lee’s fame, as he set out to create a fighting method that was more in tune with a modern archetype that was just finding its footing in college campuses in the 1960’s – the modern adult learner and autodidact. Lee had removed all the trappings of top-down educational paradigms that he felt bogged down the learning experience of his students (including his own), allowing them to learn through experiential exploration and autonomous learning.

In this episode, we explore the initial struggles of JKD from the perspective of its time, and how the root arts of JKD (Wing Chun, Boxing, and Fencing) laid the strategic and biomechanical principles that makes it one of the most accessible yet easily misunderstood martial arts of modern times.
