Why You Shouldn’t Hit the Grabbing Arm:
Ineffective Target: The grabbing arm is often strong and tensed, making it difficult to cause enough damage or pain to break the hold. Hitting it might not result in the desired effect, especially if the attacker is bigger or stronger.

Focus on the Threat: The grabbing arm is a distraction from the real threat—the person attacking you. Focusing on the arm diverts your attention from more critical targets or opportunities to escape.

Limited Impact: Striking the arm may cause temporary discomfort, but it likely won’t incapacitate the attacker or stop their aggression. It might also escalate the situation if they feel provoked.

What to Do Instead:
Target Vulnerable Areas:

Eyes: A quick jab to the eyes can disorient and create an opening to escape.
Throat: Striking the throat can cause difficulty breathing and force the attacker to release their grip.
Groin: A strike to the groin is painful and can cause the attacker to double over, loosening their grip.
Knees: A kick to the knee can destabilize and unbalance the attacker, making it easier to escape.
Leverage and Escape:

Break the Grip: Use techniques to break the grip by targeting the weaker part of the hold (e.g., pulling your wrist out towards the thumb side in a wrist grab).
Use Body Movement: Instead of striking, use your body weight and movement to create leverage and break free. Rotating your body or stepping into the attacker can unbalance them and weaken their grip.
Follow Up with Action:

Create Distance: Once free, your priority should be to create distance between you and the attacker. This could mean running away or moving to a safer position.
Use a Combination: A combination of techniques (e.g., striking a vulnerable area while breaking the grip) can increase your chances of escaping.
Mind the Situation:

Awareness: Always be aware of your surroundings and potential escape routes.
Legal Considerations: Use only as much force as necessary to escape, keeping in mind the legal implications of your actions.
Conclusion:
The advice to avoid hitting the grabbing arm is about focusing on more effective strategies that maximize your chances of escape or neutralizing the threat. By targeting more vulnerable areas or using body mechanics to break free, you increase your chances of safely getting out of a dangerous situation.

Pure bs. The only people grabbed by the wrist are 5 year old children and drunk friends you have to control. I've been in the arts for 64 years, former bodyguard and bouncer and I've never seen a wrist grab as a lead move nor have any of my colleagues or fellow instructors.
Wrist grab techniques like this are taught to sell training materials and amaze the untrained.

When someone locks on to you and pulls you in to join the party you better turn into a bobcat and make them wish they didn't invite you ! Action gets reaction and make it count !

If he gives you an easy shot, you wreck it. Tensed muscles snap , but i do agree with the go forward

Long winded moves and explanations never work. Simple left cross puts him out and ends the night for him esp. if hes pulling you into the party. Learning to box ends ALL these hand to hand problems…except weapons.

You don’t hit the grabbing arm, you grab the grabbing arm and bend it!
