A factor that people usually do not take in training, is what would happen if your hands are covered in blood during a knife attack. Most people think that you should just try to trap the knife in this type of attack and then strike the opponent.
What if you can’t?
If you’ve never trained or thought about this, you might end up gravely injured, or worse, killed. Bleeding in a knife attack is a very important factor to take into account. It can get quite slippery, due to the blood and can cause you to not have a firm grip on your attacker. And so, you will be incapable in trapping the knife.
Since you’ll be using twice as more energy than usual just trying to defend yourself against your attacker, you need to figure out a way to survive in this type of scenario.
Here are some tips you can use in this type of situation:
• Parrying: parry the knife with your arms to make sure the knife stays as far away from you as possible, as to not cause fatal damage.
• High and Low Strikes: Strike to incapacitate your opponent while still being aware of where the knife is traveling.
• Footwork: Don’t just stay in one place and allow your opponent to keep striking at you, trying to hurt you. Instead, move around him.
• Kicks: While performing high strikes or parrying with the knife, perform low kicks to incapacitate your attacker.
Honestly, it always depends on the situation. You need to use your instincts and be aware of your opponent and their movement. Yes, seeing blood is scary. However, remember, the fight doesn’t end when you start bleeding. The fight ends when you give up fighting. Keep that in mind in this type of situation and do whatever it takes to make it out alive.
