I like your use of “self-preservation" vs "self perfection”. I have always just differentiated the differences as real vs basic concepts training (most systems only deal with basic concepts or self perfection training and don't delve into the world of "real" fight training).

It only takes a few trips into the "real" world to learn that self perfection doesn't exist in the "real" fight world.

Fact: at close range a knife even used by someone who lacks experience is more dangerous and potentially life threatening than a person up close with a firearm.

I think that is one of the hardest question anyone ask when looking a knives…"What does an acutal, real life knife attack look like".

There is alot of nastiness like those pictures that people do not want to deal with.
