Haha, thanks for the shoutout guys! I would think the non-serrated Karambits would be the most harmful. I would not want to be on call during a Karambit fight.

Hawkbill blade doesn't mean karambit. You should know it.

I agree with you- there really isn't much practical use for karambits. Karambits were designed after a tiger claw, but like the weapons of the Japanese Kobudo martial arts system in Okinawa that were originally farming tools (the sai, nunchaky, tonfa, bo staff- like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), it seems that the karambit was also originally a farming tool for raking the ground for planting and removing roots.

Karambits, as far as I know, are primarily used in Escrima/Arnis/Kali, the Filipino martial arts system of the Phillipines. And yes, the reverse grip is the traditional grip.

But it is a complex knife, and to use it effectively, one has to be trained with it in Escrima/Arnis/Kali. They also teach basic knife fighting with normal knives in Escrima, and I'm sure that comes before training with the more advanced karambit. But both knives work off the same angles and same principles in Escrima. So really, the only useful use of a karambit is defensive, and with someone trained in how to use it. I mean you could EDC, but as you have shown, not super effective, because of a lack of belly and a odd cutting surface. I get why a lot of people are not huge into them. It is for a select market.
