Truth about Kukri – is it good for bushcraft? (No, but it can chop a limb off?) KarambitKnives, com

There is too much marketing lures for Kukri knives on the market, and plenty of influencers promoting them for bushcraft, camping and outdoor use. In reality, Kukri is a weapon made for slashing flesh, chopping limbs off. It’s average size is that of a short sword and it is rather thick and weighty. The effectiveness and efficiency of a Kukri for combat is a separate discussion, but here I look into its use for bushcraft, camping and general outdoors use.

I purchased two Kukri knives. One 13" long to serve as a machete to cut my way to shoreline fishing spots one 15" long to serve as a camp tool to compliment my smaller Eastwing camp ax. They work extremely well for clearing brush, chopping down saplings, splitting smaller logs into kindling. They both re-sharpen very easily using an Accusharp carbide sharpener
As a all around camp tool I feel they work extremely well. I can see where they would be a devastatingly effective self defense weapon. I can not speak to their effectiveness as a survival knife, and they wouldn't be my first choice. My survival knife of choice is a 9-10" drop point or very similar design.
Myself personally I would want both a very stout knife and a well made collapsible shovel in my dedicated SHHTF bug out kit.
