For all you Victorian selfdefence, karate martial artists, bareknuckle fighting, boxing training and victorian bareknuckle boxing fans out there @DanOldSkoolConditioningMan. Its time for us to take another step back in time along our fighting fitness journey of discovery to the Golden age of bareknuckle boxing of the victorian prize fighting era, when boxing was done without gloves under the London Prize Ring Rules and learn more about how boxing training was done in this great era.
In this our second and final look at comparing the pugilistic elements of karate and that of victorian era bareknuckle boxing.
In this episode our latest video we take a much deeper look at victorian era boxing training, skills and technique. Using as our guide along this boxing journey, the first ever book written about the use of bareknuckle boxing and wrestling, solely for the practical use of seldefense. This book written by American pugilist and boxing coach, Edmund Price and is called the The Science of Self Defence. Written in 1867. This book is a veritable gold mine, giving us a real insight of fighting bareknuckle in the by gone age of boxing training during the victorian prize fighting era.
Using this book we begin by learning how the victorian boxing system split the body up into 3 ddifferent areas to be attacked with with specific punches and also how to defend against these booxing punches. From a purely self defense training perspective it is interesting to see that using boxing skills and boxing techniques as well as wrestling head locks, holds, throws and trips. As well as a much wider array of striking areas of the body allowed under the London Prize Ring Rules. Is Far more effecting as a fighting system for selfdefence, than that of modern boxing of today.
So in this video we learn 7 different boxing punches and how to defend against them with the boxing parries or boxing defences in Prices manual but also put them together with boxing punching technique and defensive boxing techniques used by some of the greatest bareknuckle boxing champions of the victorian era.
As this is also our last comparison of both the puglistic elements of karate and of Victorian era boxing training. We also take a deeper look at how karate throws the backfist punch, comparing that to how it is thrown in bareknuckle boxing and why its is used differently. Also we take a deep look at using 5 karate blocks and compare how well they would work against boxing punching of the victorian era and also look at some striking simularities of how the two styles deal with the same problems in selfdefence, even though developing, thousands of miles apart and hundreds of years apart.
This video is not just about a historical look at a self defence and sport from a bygone era of fighting, it is much more than this it is also about bringing back into the spotlight the art of fighting with your fists as both sport and for selfdense training as it was done under the London Prize Ring Rules during the golden age of the great victorian boxing prizefighting era. Also it is shockingly hard work, thus making it a fantastic way to keep physicaly fit and strong. As boxing training uses every muscle in your body at every moment, so is probably the most effective form of functional starength and fitness training, especialy when also using wrestling training. As neither of these two physical activities require little or no equipment and so can be done any where, theey are also the perfect homeworkout.
Why not come and join me on my unconventional fitness lifestyle and old school boxing lifestyle and journey training boxing the way it waas meant to be done and doing it with the guidence and inthe foot steps of the greatest boxing champions that ever lived to insspire and teach us.
