I used to help with sound and lighting at raves back in the 90s and the over/under technique is exactly how we wrapped all cables. Great video! Brought back some good memories.

    Heres the carpenters method.

Hold one plug in non dominant hand at roughly your side (adjust for length of loop). Pull the slack with your other arm to full span and loop the slack, repeat until your on the last loop. With a full loop worth of slack remaining grab the other plug and pass it to your non dominant hand so that you are now holding both plugs and 95% of the cord in your non dominant hand and grab the hanging loop of slack you just made, take that loop and wrap it around the bundle as many times as it will allow, making a figure 8 shape out of your bundle, then feed the wrapping loop through the top of the 8 underneath both plugs.

You can now hang it by the head of the loop and if you pull that loop back through the 8 your bundle will unravel with 0 tangles every time and you always have both plugs right next to eachother when you do.

I've done 2 features with Steve Smith. The key grip in your example. He doesn't coil cable.
You have grip and lighting mixed up.

I chained cables when I was in the business. Definitely the way to go. Take a 100 foot cable and double back on itself to make it 50 feet then chain loop it from the plug ends to the loop end. Never tangles and its fast. No reel and easy to handle because you can drag it anywhere even if the cable weighs 50 pounds. You unravel it from the loop end. What are these people doing? He's showing this method at the end but you can start chaining from the plug ends and you do NOT have to plug them into one another like he's doing nor do you need to start from the loop end just start from the plug ends. Looks like he's doing this with a real light cord but we used to use #10 extension cords that weighed at least 40 pounds or so.Yep no need to even carry the thing just drag it everywhere, unravel, plug in to a temp pole and get to work.
