I train in Wing Chun so do not wish to give bad comments but serioulsy these techniques are no good. You have to understand that the attacker will be moving not leaving his hand out for you to block then grab then strike. No way! Better to block and strike same time. Better to kick if possible keeping distance. If you are going to train knife defence you must allow the attacker the freedom to move around, use knife in any motion he wants. You will get stabbed most times but will learn

when does an attacker just try and stab once? agree with what people are saying use a marker pen and just say attack then adapt your techniue to what attack is coming also as soon as one stab has happened he/she would likely pull back to stab again (frenzied attacks) just putting one hand on the wrist will get you killed all attention needs to be on that one arm and then you can use legs or head for the atemi's and immobolise the arm with simple locking and restraining techniques

If a skilled martial artist is confronted by a moderately skilled knife fighter, he would be at a disadvantage cause the empty handed guy got to used a bigger motion to land a good blow to the knife guy, while the knife just needs a few light nicks to make you bleed to death. That why places that you to carry knifes in the open, the martial arts there would teach you fighting with a knife first then fight empty handed. Of course some knife disarming skills are better than no skills

@WhirlwindWerewolf Lol The smartest thing to do would be to run. But if they came at you with a straightforward manner, it'd probably be like treating it like a punch while minding where the blade is. If the blade is in an upwrite position coming down for a slash is rather simply if you're quick. Going down would be a tougher response with even quicker reflexes

thank goodness I actually own KNIFE and won't be reduced to this silliness if ever attacked on the street. The only way to deal with a knife when you can't run is with a knife or stick or gun. hand to hand vs knife is dumbest shit ever.

@wilberfork – All I have left to say is this: Try being the bad knife guy & as ur best students try and stop u, turn the blade (marker) to slash their limbs if theres any contact. Use fakes & setups, changing before interceptions. Use the knife like a lightning fast jab rather than a committed power punch. When u see how easy it is at full speed to fake+slice, your ideas about hand to knife defenses will change radically. Esp when u see all the marks on the students white T's, and their limbs.

@wilberfork – We are not talking about professors here, but people who are morally bankrupt, willing to cut you up for ur wallet, or fun. There are intelligent criminals. And there are thugs who are very skilled with weaponry, as well as inflicting bodily harm. There may be uncoordinated thugs out there, but to bank your life on Assumption is idiocy. An uncoordinated thug is probably already dead, while the ones left, are the ones who were very coordinated, enough to survive & thrive..

@kenshin1368 – As soon as the interception occurs, the knife is already moving. The demo guys timing & reactions are a demo, so he wont react like a Real person would. Same as if your wrist is about to be grabbed.. You sense it, and immediately start to move things. Except, when a knife changes, it slashes a wrist open, or worse. Try full speed plus an intent cutter. If u cant, then go find a knife fighting expert. They will school u quick. But most kids w/ a marker will suffice.

ALL of you guyz that dought wing chun you should think 2wice about it because this is a very effective style on the streets this isnt MMA their is many effective techniques in this style you guys are saying this wouldnt work because you obviously dont know this style very well why dont one you take classes and try it out then you can complain.

  11. kungfusteve73 says:

These will get u killed in real life. The knife demo guys not trying2trick u or react 2u. A real intelligent person will not only fake u out 2get an opening, but also will just rotate the wrist a little when theres any interceptions & slice ur limb right up. Use a fat sharpie & really make the attacker try to score. Note the marks all over ur arms & body after. It wont b pretty.

I think you would be lucky if someone on the street who knew what they were doing attacked you with a straight lunge or an overhead like that. These techniques may work against someone who doesn't know how to use a knife. A straight stab is easily avoided. When they slash in a straightforward manner at your arms without a large circular motion it's much more difficult. What would Wing Chun do in that situation?

  13. GoWithTheFlow says:

Try using the same techniques with a rubber knife ( Or a big fat marker pen so it marks the body and you can count the stab marks after ) and REALLY GO FOR IT. You will soon learn what works and what doesnt.
